MULCH
All areas of exposed soil shall receive a minimum of 3-inches of Mulch as per Detail on the Drawings. A sample of mulch product shall be submitted to the Architect for approval prior to delivery. Mulch shall manufactured from 100% recycled dimensional urban lumber and color-treated.
Approved products include:
(Mahogany), (Dark Brown), (Black) ProChip Mulch available from Earth Tones Mulch 800-850-1508. Medium fir-bark may be substituted if contractor can demonstrate Prochip or other 100% recycled mulch is not available or is more expensive.
Mulch shall conform to the following specification guidelines:
Gradation: A minimum of 80% of the material by weight shall be between 1-3” in any one dimension. Less than 1% shall be larger than 4”. Contaminants: The mulch shall be substantially free of any contamination, rocks and dirt or non-wood materials.
SOIL AMENDMENT
Soil amendment shall be incorporated into soil where plantings and turf are called for as per Details on Drawings. Unless otherwise indicated by soils tests, contractor shall incorporate 2 inches of compost into the top 6 inches (6.5 cu. yards per 1,000 sq.feet) of soil in all areas receiving planting.
Soil Amendment shall be manufactured from 100% recycled urban green and wood materials at a California State permitted facility. Soil amendment shall comply with below list of guidelines. A recent fertility analysis shall be submitted to the Landscape Architect for approval prior to delivery.
Approved products include:
Compost or nitrogen-stabilized sawdust as available from Earth Tones Mulch 800-850-1508
Amendment shall conform to the following specification and guidelines:
Gradation: minimum of 90% of the material by weight shall pass a 1⁄2” screen. Passing materials shall meet the following criteria:

Soluble Salts: 0 - 4.0 dS/m. If soluble salts of the amendment are above 4 dS/m, then the contractor is to verify through soil test that the final ECe of the amended soil is not be above 4.0 dS/m @ 25 degrees C.
Contaminants: the soil amendment shall be free of contaminants such as plastics, glass and debris.
